I am a current sophomore in high school with a very late birthday, around late May, so I will be unable to get my driver's license until then. I have had a tough time attending and participating in club activities because I have little to no family nearby who can pick me up at a non-standard time. My parents have meetings and schedule them around school pickup, and we are rarely informed beforehand about when certain clubs are meeting until the day of, which, by then, is very difficult to reschedule around. How will this affect my college applications, and how should I address this issue or attempt to resolve it?
I'm so sorry, I too aren't able t get my driver's license and rely on parents for pickup. Unfortunately there aren't many solutions, one idea I've done is try to find activities near your house in walking or biking distance. Colleges will see this and understand more, but keep in mind extracurriculars are only a very small part of the application and your GPA and test scores matter much more. Keep working hard and you'll go far, even without a driver's license.
Hi! It depends on the college you want to apply for, some are more strict than others and will want more extracurricular activities. However, you can find some "extracurricular activities" from your hobbies! I was online schooled since 2nd grade and I used Jiu Jitsu, art, and cooking as activities for my college applications. Maybe write a list of your hobbies or family activities and what you could have learned from them; leadership, teamwork, sense of community, confidence, multi-tasking and perseverance are some example of what colleges are looking for. Another thing is to look into your college and desired major to find what would be suit their interest and tailor your application and chosen hobbies to match. Hope this helps!
