I鈥檓 currently taking Honors Algebra 2 and planning my high school math path. I鈥檓 considering taking Honors Pre-Calculus over the summer so I can take AP Calculus AB as a junior. Since I鈥檓 aiming for a top 20 college, would taking Calc AB earlier help strengthen my application, or would it be better to stay on the normal track and take it as a senior? Any advice or experiences would be really helpful!
In theory: Yes. That would strengthen your application.
However- it does depend on the curriculum of that course in your district, but in general, honors precalculus is a very rigorous course. If you would be teaching yourself, I would not recommend it. If you would have a teacher, then it is doable. Precalc has a lot of new concepts and is very difficult to most 鲍鱼直播, but if you are sure you would do well, go for it! I would not recommend taking normal precalc then going straight to AP Calc. Regular precalc won't prepare you as honors does.
If your school allows it, cause mine doesn't, that would be a good route, especially if you want to major in anything STEM related.
